Child and Elder Abuse . . . connection to diapers?
Child Abuse. Elder Abuse, who would have thought there was a connection between abuse and diapers?
If a baby’s mother cannot afford a healthy change of diapers, the baby may be in the same diaper for hours, perhaps days. And in a household already living with extreme stress, the likelihood of child abuse increases dramatically when the baby is crying from the discomfort of living in a soiled diaper.
And much as most of us cannot bear the thought of a tiny baby being abused, it is just as hard to imagine the life of an elderly parent in the same situation. A large percentage of elderly live with a family member. Frequently those families cannot afford $100 or more per month for incontinence supplies. When that parent has an “accident” on the sofa or the carpet, the result is often a thing we don’t want to think about – elder abuse.
These are a few examples of why the Diaper Bank needs diapers all year round!! Your gifts of diapers or cash (or both) make a bigger difference in people’s lives than you could ever imagine. Make a donation now!
