The
Gospel Rescue Mission's mission is to become the most effective life
changing ministry in Tucson that serves the homeless and needy by
providing for their spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental
wholeness through the power of Jesus Christ. This organization was
founded in 1953 to express by Ray Chastain, a yardmaster for the
railroad who saw a never-ending stream of homeless men riding the rails
in and out of Tucson. Chastain joined with other caring and concerned
Tucsonans to begin providing meals, clothing, shelter and a Gospel
message from a local storefront buidling downtown next to the railroad
yard.
Working together, the Diaper Bank and
Gospel Rescue Mission are making a difference in the lives of those in
need. The following note highlights the importance of helping those
less fortunate:

Kirsten, thank you for EVERYTHING you and your staff do.
I have a testimony to share with you:
On
Monday, we had a first time Mom in our office needing free clothing and
household items for her apartment. Her new baby was a few months old.
She was so hot and tired and it was such a humid day. Most days we are
totally out of diapers as they are like "gold" here at Community
Ministries. We do not advertise that we have these items as we want to
offer them in emergency situations (which is most often the case with
our clients that come to us). But this day, as she was out in our yard
going through items, one of my staff went into the back and put
together a "Wonderful Mothers Basket" with diapers, pads, baby shampoo
& some cream.
You would have thought we were paying her rent
for a month when she went on crying and thanking us. We had to tell her
that it wasn't from us but from the goodness of the DIAPER BANK. I told
her I would pass on her thanks to you and your staff. Thanks again for
making our job so special.
